Republic Day Reflections

Republic Day of India has always been a day of great importance and pride for all of us here at Sreenidhi and this Republic day celebration was as beautiful as always. The celebrations started with a melodious rendering of  our national song Vande Mataram. Then There was the flag hoisting  – not by any renowned chief guest – but by two little kids from our nursery . It was followed by the National Anthem. Balloons, coloured the same as our tricolors were released high in the air by our two little friends. It was a very patriotic moment for me, to watch our flag flying aloft in the air and the green ,orange, white and blue balloons soaring away. Then we listened to two beautiful patriotic songs sung by two girls of 8 and 9 IC. There was a very motivating speech about the importance of Republic Day by Priyadarshini mam . In the end when I was walking away from the Amphitheatre, I felt like a more responsible citizen of India.

Republic Day at Sreenidhi

India won her freedom on the 15th of August, 1947 and became a Republic on the 25th of January, 1950. The new constitution of free India came into force with effect from this day.

It is a day of national rejoicing and a red letter day in our country. The day is celebrated with pomp and show, zeal and spirit, throughout the length and breadth of the country.

The day was celebrated in our school with great éclat. The amphitheatre was decorated with balloons and banners of the Indian colours. The special assembly started with the unfurling of the flag by two of our nuursery students , and every student saluted the flag with pride and stood for the National Anthem. Balloons were released in the air.

The students of grade 5 sang songs about the glory of our country. And this year, I got to sing a song too. I was very nervous but I got through it successfully. We also had a small speech about the importance of Republic day, by  our lovely history teacher Mrs.Priyadarshini.

The boys of grade 9 staged a one act play which was very much liked by one and all.

The dance group performed a beautiful dance, appreciated by one  and all. In fact, I think it was the highlight of the day

In fact, it was a day of rejoicing and merry-making.  May we continue celebrating the glory of India on this day forever!

Patriotic Singing Competition for House Event

Keeping in mind that Republic Day follows soon, teachers decided to organize a patriotic singing competition for children during the house meet on Friday January 21, 2012. We were as excited as children because we could feel their eagerness behind their efforts to perform to their level best.  The event had two categories – Solo Singing for Middle School and Senior School and Group Singing for students from both Middle and Senior School.

Students organized their own karaoke or musical accompaniment and put up a melodious show. Teachers were all humming to the tunes. They could sing on any Indian language and were judged according to the parameters of pitch, melody, diction, expression, coordination, harmony. The judges of the event were Mr. Emmanuel, Mr. Umesh and Ms. Subarnasree G.

It was indeed a nice afternoon for all as we heard to patriotic songs. The spirit of the country and the zeal of fighting for freedom were resonating in the air. Teachers have selected two participants from the event – Regalla Sai Shruti, Mars House – Senior School and Ambika Radhakrishnan, Venus house Middle School to perform on the occasion of Republic Day itself.
