PARENT’S REFLECTION

A couple of days ago, we had made sambhar for dinner.  I warned Claas H about it being spicy and served him a little bit. He tasted it and liked it and took more helping of it. Really appreciate the openness of mind!!

Today, there was a bit of a muddle in the morning as Claas H thought he had lost his passport. He searched for about 15 minutes pulling stuff out from his bag till Klaas B remembered that all the passports of the dorm students were with the faculty.

While boarding the car, Klaas B took out a box of chocolates and gave it to my housekeeper and told her that it was for her, her husband (our chauffeur) and their kids for giving him a good time. It was really wonderful and very thoughtful of him. Our housekeeper too was quite overwhelmed at his thoughtfulness.

Claas H told me that I have a home in Germany which will always be open to me should I decide to visit Germany. He also said that it is the least he could do for making his stay so comfortable here.

The experience of having them stay with us has definitely enriched our lives and opened our minds. It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to learn and understand a culture far different from their own. It also taught them the responsibility of taking care of their guests, looking after their wellbeing and comfort and putting the guests desires ahead of their own. It also gave the students of Sreenidhi and Nasr a chance to get to know each other and become friends in the last couple of weeks. As parents, we are thankful to Sreenidhi & Nasr schools, German schools and government and Indian government for making this possible.

Amit is definitely down in the dumps today and has mentioned at least a few times as to why they had to leave. We too are missing the presence of Klaas, Claas and Madan and feel a eerie silence in our house. Miss you guys!!!

Auf Wiedersehen and Good luck!

 Day-15: The Final Day!!

What could be a better way to start the day than watching the young students from Hyderabad and Hamburg Schools presenting their research work to the audience.

It was an honour watching the young minds displaying not just their understanding of the Global issues such as re-newable energy but also coming up with ideas to control the crisis that the world is facing now and probably will face more severely in time to come.

The students, divided into 6 sub groups, presented their research work through power point presentations, recorded videos, conversations, skits and other forms.  A large number of parents turned up to Nasr School to watch the presentations.

Over all, it was a wonderful display of team efforts by the students; we would like to thank the project coordinators from all five schools who guided the students to reach to this level.

We are convinced that our mother earth is safe and secure in the hands of future generations.

 Day-14: Some Light Moments

Glimpses of Farewell:

 Stuents Reflection

Srikanth Reddy.V, Grade 11 IBDP, Sreenidhi International School

My experience at Nasr was really good. I was overwhelmed by the welcome by the students in the assembly. Despite the fact that the school is a quite old, it is still well maintained. The best part of the school is the canteen. The lunch which was organized separately for us made my stomach full. My group has been working really hard on sub topic and we are actually progressing really well in our presentations. We have all worked separately. Three of us made the presentation using PowerPoint, two of us wrote down the expert interview and our last member browsed the net for information and summarized it by the end of the day.

Surya Reddy N, Grade 11 ISC, Sreenidhi International School

I enjoyed every step of this program; it has been an enriching and enlightening experience, to spend time in a neighboring school with rich culture and a long history. To make friends from both near and far to meet people from another country, from three different schools. The German exchange program has just been such a wonderful experience.

Tanvi Shrimal,  Grade 11 IBDP, Sreenidhi International School

Looking ahead to a new road, a new experience and many new people I started this journey of the Indo – German exchange project. It all started with knowing each other, our families, our lifestyles, our food and a lot more about our cultures.

This journey has got me a lot of new ideas till now and I am sure I have a lot to learn in this trip because even if the exchange ends our journey and friendship is something that will always be there forever.

Madhan Kumaran Selvam, Grade 11 IBDP, Sreenidhi International School

The Indo-German Exchange Programme is an occasion to enlighten myself about the conservation methods, which my group is working and it is a great learning experience. The guest lectures and the field trips taught me something new and fascinating.

Any thing I do is only because I love doing it, such a thing is traveling and therefore when given the chance with great enthusiasm. That enthusiasm has not died out and it only seems to get better during this project.

Every day is an adventure and everything is new and fun to do. Getting to spend time with new friends from miles away but still feel like we have known each other for a very long time. I also made many friends here at home which otherwise I would have never met in my life.

Every little moment and every little thing we did together as a group, I will cherish for the rest of my life, thank you for this opportunity.

Mihika Reddy, Grade 11 IBDP, Sreenidhi International School

Coming to Nasr for the later half of the project work has been a really exciting and enriching experience. The welcome was really warm and we did not feel one bit intimated for coming to a new place for the first time.

Talking about the German Exchange Programme on the whole, it is an unforgettable experience and undoubtedly life changing.

More than just exchanging ideas, cultures, perspectives, it brought together two different worlds to one where everything connects and becomes an everlasting memory.

The bond we formed with our buddies and the other Germans is indeed an amazing one that I am sure will be strongly cemented for many years to come.

Day 11: 21st January Overnight Campsite @ Green Fields

The students and faculty of Indo-German Exchange programme assembled in Nasr Girls School for the second week of the project. The Nasr girls welcomed the whole group with the special assembly and then the students and staff went for the campus tour. After the snack time the students started working for the project by delegating  the individual task.

 Day-8:18-Jan-2011

Glimpses:

 Day-7: 17 January 2012

Today we started our day with the group discussion for 30 minutes for their project work. We visited Andromeda Energy TechnologyPrivate LTD, working for Renewable Energy Systems.

Students were excited to learn, visually explore the stepwise process of making solar modules (which captures the sun energy and converted into electricity). Mr. Ravi, Customer support officer started the session by explaining the materials needed to make solar modules. He made the students to think scientifically and made the session more interactive. This is an indeed a great experience for all staff and students to understand the minute details for selecting the materials used in solar modules.

We took a visit around the factory where they made solar panels. Few students were curious in applying them in day today life. Inquiring minds of the students made Mr. Ravi to take us to other section of the factory, where solar lanterns and solar fans are manufactured and these are used in rural areas. The applications of solar panels were listed accurately by the students.

We then traveled to Jubilee Hills for observing the application of solar modules in residential areas. They are using solar energy as an alternative resource of energy for common lights used in the apartments. It made many of us to think about the application for our residential purpose. “If once we invest on solar panels we can save energy for life time” is the common thought in all the minds and then we were back to school.

 Day-6: 16 January 2012

Day-6: 16th January 2012

January 16th, 2012

Today the students and faculty of Indo-German Youth Exchange Programme visited ICRISAT as a part of their project. It is located near Patacheru in 3,500 acres of land. The trip was quite informative and fruitful. Mr. M M Sharma, the Manager of the firm introduced to us the vision and mission of the ICRISAT. The programme started with the video presentation highlighting the various activities of ICRISAT and its role in sustainable development. Its approach is through partnership-based international agricultural research-for-development that embodies Science with a Human Face.

The campus was beautiful and rich in biodiversity with large number of birds and around 300 species of plants .

During the campus tour we saw various aspects of biodiversity such as research on five highly nutritious, drought-tolerant crops – chickpea, pigeonpea, pearl millet, sorghum and groundnut. It also develops sustainable management of semi-arid tropic (SAT) systems through efficient and sustainable management of natural resources. These samples of five crops were displayed in their mini museum.

  • We visited AIP (Agribusiness and Innovation Platform). It is an interface between agricultural research and industry.
  • The main research activity in ICRISAT is production of Bio ethanol from sweet sorghum biomass.
  • We saw the water bodies of ICRISAT which are artificial and fed through rain water.
  • The most attractive and impressive part was their “Rain Water Harvesting system”, one of the energy conservation techniques to irrigate crops.
  • Roof of glass house complex was designed to collect rain water. The water is de-ionized and used for research and for drinking purposes.
  • Various irrigation techniques like sprinkler, the mobile large scale mechanized American designed linear irrigation system have been observed during the campus tour in the bus.
  • ICRISAT is working with 55 countries around world to assist, develop national agricultural systems.
  • There we observed the black soil and red soil on either side of the road which is useful for experimental purpose.

There was lot of information and it is a wonderful opportunity for the exchange program students to get exposure to high quality research. It provided them with several inputs for their project work.
