15Th May, 2012 – A Special Day at Hamburg to Project India

We woke up in the morning and took train and went to Heilwig School. We started to work on our project. It was a very busy day as we had our Indian presentation also. We did the project research work from morning 9.00am to 3.00pm. We were half done with the structure of our presentation. We were asked to show a rough draft about how we are going to present our project on final day.

At 3.00pm all the Indian students practiced for the parents evening. We practiced for an hour and we corrected our mistakes. We all went back to our housed. We got ready and came to Eppendorf for the parents evening. All the girls danced and put up a really great show. Every one was very impressed by our presentation. Surya spoke really well about MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT INDIA. We had an informal interaction with parents after the presentation. We all took a lot of pictures. We made our bonds strong with all the Nasr girls and German friends. Then we went back home. :P :) :) !

 Students´ Reflection

The New Week Started ahead!!

“ Wake up we are late“ today we got up late that is very unusual but then got ready as fast as possible, packed my breakfast and ran for the train but missed it.

I regret missing that train as it lead us to change at least five trains to reach the final destination. PHEW!!

We were late by 20 minutes and to our surprise, so were the rest. Today the day started of at LMG with our practice for the parents evening! It was fun practising and interacting with the NASR girls.

As we were done with the practice we had some project work and soon left for the “Max Plank Institute”. There we had few presentations not related to our project but quite a bit interesting!

As we were done my friends and myself went to nike showroom … our favorite place all over the world!! Love that store shopped for my family but the funniest things was whenever Srikanth liked a shoe he never got his size! Haha at the end he got so pissed off with it that he finally got a watch and forgot about shoes.

Then all of us headed to the side of the lake which is our common place the lake. I love it there, so the day ends. I went back home and slept to see another wonderful day.

Gute Nacht!

 Students’ Reflection

A packed day ahead, we started of at 5.00 in the morning. Everybody reached the bus station by 5.50 in the morning to board the bus to PELLWORM, an island. Two hours of travelling on the bus, we reached the FERRY that was to take us to the island.

The weather was not unusually windy but the rain definitely made it a very chilly day. But it did add to the fun of the whole trip. The ferry ride was an amazing experience and walking around shivering in the cold made it a lot more worthwhile and different to the experiences in India.

After reaching pellworm, we met the eminent researchers who gave us an insight into the alternative resources used on the island. Resources used are solar panels, wind mills and biomass. We were taken around and shown these sources of renewable energy on the island. After spending  an enriching first half of the day we left the island and come back to the Hamburg city.

On the way we stopped at HUSUM where we spent an hour. At this tourist place, we shopped and ate at many different eateries. After such a fun  packed day, we headed out with our buddies to spend the rest of the evening at the harbour. The day ended with all of us very tired and eager to go to bed, since we knew, there was going to be yet another wonderful day ahead.

 11th May, 2012 (DAY – 5)

Today was the political day. It was delight to see our Indian flag flying over the Hamburg Parliament. We the group of INDO-GERMAN YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAMME got an opportunity to meet the Mayor and Indian Trade Minister, Mr Anand Sharma. They interacted with our students and conveyed the wishes for their project.

The students have been given one hour for project preparation at Heilwig Gymnasium and then taken to MUSEUM  to show about the HISTORY OF HAMBURG. Despite the political scenario it was a wonderful day. From there every one have left to their homes along with their buddies.

 10th May, 2012 (DAY – 4)

Our day started early morning at 5 am to reach an ISLAND called PELLWORM for a field trip. It is a small island in the North Sea, self sustainable in running wind energy plant, solar energy plant and biogas plant on a large scale.

There was a presentation by the officials, Dieter Haack and Sven Maier and explained how they are working for efficient use of renewable resources to produce energy.

We then went to the small harbour town of Husum, a tourist place.

 9th May, 2012 (DAY – 3)

We were at Lise-Meitner Gymnasium on 9th May, 2012. The day started with music-Samba beats. All the students volunteered to follow the instructions for playing Samba drums. Kids enjoyed playing and we enjoyed listening to them.  It was followed by the welcome song and speech by the last year’s Exchange programme participants.

A brief introduction to the project and expectations from students was explained with the hand out given to them. The groups were reshuffled for a broader spectrum to understand and analyze about the Project theme-RENEWABLE ENEGY.

After lunch we started moving towards the place where they build HYDROBUSES-that run on hydrogen. It was the informative trip and still the research is going on to improve the efficient use of hydrogen instead relying on non renewable fuels like diesel and petrol.

After the power point presentation the students moved on with their buddies by their own to their destinations.

 8th May, 2012

They said it was cold……maybe it was but I was too excited to care. That’s probably why I didn’t feel much. We inched towards the exit and could see familiar faces, excited parents and their families all out to receive us. The reception from the German student’s parents and teachers was very heartwarming and seeing each other after such a long time everyone was overwhelmed.

I was received by my buddy Josh and his parents’ who took me in and treated me as their own, as I exited the airport I enjoyed the greenery. What excited even after a 14 hour journey were the cars in Germany!!! …all I could see were bmw’S, Audi’s, jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes ….and all those fancy sports cars we all dream of having.

After we reached josh’s home we went to a German restaurant where i had my first stake, and for those mothers  who worry about your sons and daughters not liking German food …….don’t worry!! The food is just as good as ours!!

The next day we went to school and met all our old friends and the Indian students exchanged their experiences with each other about their host families and what they thought of Hamburg .we then were received by the Eppendorf Gymnasium teachers and  we carried on to Hamburg port where we saw Michel church. We climbed to the clock tower from where we could see Hamburg clearly.

We then went on a ferry around Hamburg port and ended up in miniature land where we saw all of Hamburg scaled down and presented in the Hamburg dungeon. It was so detailed and I even saw the terminal at which we got off at the airport!

I am very much looking forward to the next few days in Germany and i hope to take back as many experiences as possible!
